Anglophone crisis: Paul Biya pulls back General Melingui Nouma

President Paul Biya has ordered General Melingui to move back to Yaounde as the Anglophone crisis intensifies.

Melingui Nouma was the commander of the 21st Mechanised Infantry Division in Buea.

The move comes hours after gunshots are reportedly heard in Buea.

Colonel Djotsa has taken over.

It is not yet clear enough why Mr Biya decided to pull Melingui from the battlefield.

Rumours suggest the general has been overwhelmed by the intensity of the unrest. Soldiers continue to fall in clashes with separatist forces.
