Human rights lawyer Barrister Agbor Balla has urged the international community to isolate Cameroon as the violence in the two English-speaking regions gets worse and worse every single day.

The plea was made on Monday in Dakar as he attended the release of Amnesty International’s new report on human rights violations in the South West and North West regions of Cameroon.

{loadposition myposition}

The recent report “was conducted after interviews from over 150 victims and corroborates more than a thousand findings, investigations and recordings from victims which Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa has documented for almost two years,” JournalduCameroon.com has reported.

“The facts are available for the international community. It is time to isolate the government of Cameroon, review military cooperation in cases of gross human rights violations and where weapons meant for fighting against Boko Haram have been transferred to Anglophone regions and have been used against civilians,” the news site has quoted Balla as saying in a statement.

The president of the outlawed Cameroon Anglophone Civil Society Consortium has made several media outings lately to support the Anglophone struggle.

International Crisis Group has said a civil war could soon happen in Cameroon.

Anglophone crisis: Amnesty International releases report on human rights violations http://cameroon-concord.com/boko-haram/anglophone-crisis-agbor-balla-calls-for-international-isolation-of-cameroon http://cameroon-concord.com/boko-haram/anglophone-crisis-agbor-balla-calls-for-international-isolation-of-cameroon Anglophone crisis: Amnesty International releases report on human rights violations

The latest report on the fighting in Anglophone Cameroon has accused government forces and Ambazonian separatist fighters of human rights violations.

The report released on Monday was produced with interviews from more than 150 victims and eye-witnesses including satellite images, we have understood.

The rights group says security forces have indiscriminately killed, arrested and tortured people during military operation which have also displaced thousands.

{loadposition myposition}

Amba Boys on their part are accused of burning down schools and killing scores of security officers as well as targeting teachers and students who defy calls for school boycott.

“They tied our hands behind our backs, gagged us and tied our faces with our towels and shorts, which they tore. They then made us lie in the water, face down for about 45 minutes, “ a man, one of the 23 people detained in the South West region’s town off Dadi, told Amnesty International as part of the alleged torture by the military.

Amnesty blames forces loyal to the government for its heavy crackdown on the activists. “People in Cameroon’s Anglophone regions are in the grip of a deadly cycle of violence”, Samira Daoud, Amnesty’s deputy director for the region has said in a statement.

“Their heavy-handed response will do nothing to calm the violence – in fact, it is likely to further alienate Anglophone Communities and fuel further the unrest,” she has added.

Cameroon: ‘Muna, Osih, Kamto to form opposition coalition’ http://cameroon-concord.com/religion/cameroon-muna-osih-kamto-to-form-opposition-coalition http://cameroon-concord.com/religion/cameroon-muna-osih-kamto-to-form-opposition-coalition Cameroon: ‘Muna, Osih, Kamto to form opposition coalition’

Three opposition parties in Cameroon could be on their way to form a coalition group ahead of the upcoming presidential election that could see 86-year-old President Paul Biya win another seven-year term.

{loadposition myposition}

Barrister Akere Muna made the revelation in Douala on Monday, after a tour of the city at the weekend.  The leader of the Now Movement was speaking on Radio Balafon in the country in country's economic capital.

"I think there will be a coalition. Maurice [ chairman of The Cameroon Renaissance Movement] and I have discussed [...] it. Joshua [candidate of the Social Democratic Front] is someone I know. I know his family. I was even his lawyer in several cases, so it is not really a problem. I think we will find a solution [...]," he is quoted as saying by JournalduCameroon.com

"I urge Cameroonians to remain calm because we are aware of the urgency. We will come out with a solution," he has promised.

Maurice Kamto has previously reportedly declared his desire to form a coalition front as well.

Joshua Osih and Kamto are yet to react.

Some observers could see this as a good step forward to end the decades-long rule of Mr Biya who took over from Ahmadou Ahidjo in 1982.

 Though it worked well in the Gambia against Yahya Jammeh, critics do not seem to see it materialise in Cameroon. Mr Biya often 'wins more than half of the votes all alone', leaving the rest of the parties with a very tiny, insignificant minority.

Mr Biya is yet to declare his candidacy for the election later this year. Several calls from across the country keep coming for him to run again for president.

Commissioner Tazisong Christopher of the 3rd District Police Station in Muea in the Fako Division of the South West region was taken hostage by unidentified men on Sunday.

According to media reports, he was kidnapped beside a bar by some men on motorcycles at about 3pm at Mile 6 Buea.

{loadposition myposition}

This attracted a heavy deployment of armed military personnel in the area, we have learned.

A search has been launched. Cameroon-Info.Net reports that more than 100 persons have been arrested.

While nobody has claimed responsibility for the act, some people believe the kidnappers could be Anglophone separatist fighters.

The separatists fighting for the independence of Southern Cameroons are using every means possible to achieve their goal. Open clashes with government forces do not seem enough for them.

In a recent report, International Crisis Group said Cameroon could be on the brink of a civil war. Adding that about 60 people died in May alone because of the crisis.

The Registrar of the Cameroon General Certificate of Education Board has instructed students to retake two A/L subjects. Literature Paper 3 and Geography Paper 3 will be written again. The board claims that there were problems with the questions of some subjects.

{loadposition myposition}

The information is contained in a note signed by the Principal of GBHS Ndop. Going by the note, A/L Literature in English Paper 3 will be taken on Monday 11 July in the afternoons at 1pm. Geography Paper 3 will follow on Friday 15 at the same time.

The problems with the questions have not been disclosed in the note.

Since the start of the Anglophone Crisis, GCE examinations have not had a good time again. Several postponements have been observed in the organization of the exams. Results have hit an all-time low, as students in the English-speaking regions boycott the exams in their numbers.

The director of radio broadcasting of the lone state-owned CRTV has issued a strong warning to one of his colleagues who has been away from work for about four months now.

{loadposition myposition}

Alain Belibi made the warning in a note in which he threatens to implement sanctions on Fon Echekiye accordingly, if he fails to resume work. Since his transfer from the television broadcasting house to the radio broadcasting house, Fon Echekiye has not shown up, says Mr Belibi.

Fon Echekiye is one of the best sports journalists today in Cameroon. His whereabouts has remained a mystery to the public.

The CRTV ace sports commentator was reportedly interrogated in Yaounde several months ago for alleged involvement in terrorism.

Some sources believe that he could be in detention somewhere in the country. Others have gone as far as wondering if he has been hurt in one of ongoing crossfires in the two English-speaking regions of the nation.

But there is no independent confirmation yet.

Cameroon could be gradually moving towards a civil war as the unrest in the two English-speaking regions continues, according to International Crisis Group.

In a recent report, the organisation revealed that about 60 people died in May because of the crisis. This report followed an incident in the North West region several earlier in which more than 20 persons were shot dead by forces loyal to the government.

{loadposition myposition}

The Biya regime claims it was an offensive attack on armed criminals who had taken Santa Subdivision hostage.

But there has been a general outcry, condemning the brutality of security forces. No reports from the government have indicated if there were on casualties on the side of its forces, given that the criminals were armed.

The Anglophone crisis escalated in 2016 when teachers and laws took to the street to demand reforms and decry what they believe was the marginalisation of Southern Cameroons.

Several calls for dialogue from around the world have not made things any better.

Adolf Lele L'Afrique has banned the circulation of motorbikes temporarily in Bafut, North West region of Cameroon after some unidentified gunmen reportedly attacked teachers and destroyed vehicles in the area.

The governor's order does not affect motorcycles from military personnel, civil servants or authorized persons.

{loadposition myposition}

The incident happened on Friday when the armed men got to GHS Bafut and GTHS Bafut. They ordered everyone to go home and damaged the cars they found on the campuses. Two teachers were manhandled, Cameroon Info Net has reported.

The same news site adds that government forces later joined the drama and set motorbikes ablaze in retaliation. At least one rider is believed to have been shot.  It is not clear if the shot was fatal.

Some people suspect Ambazonia separatists campaigning against school resumption in Southern Cameroons.
