Cameroon: 'Gold discovered' around Eseka

There are unconfirmed reports that say gold has been discovered in a  locality called Song Matip near Eseka in the Centre region.

Eseka is that famous place where a train derailed and killed several persons and injured many more in 2016.

The supposed discovery is linked to a young man who is believed to have visited the area, observed and told another man that there was something there. They are said to have extracted an object which they said was gold.

According to media reports, several other people have crowded the area to extract the mineral.

The SDO of Nyong-et-Ekelle has reportedly banned every informal extractive activity there for the moment. He has called on people to follow formal procedures to extract the precious mineral, reports say.
