Cameroon: Murder, rape and kidnappings on the rise in Douala

Individuals are aggressed, raped and killed everyday in Japoma, a locality situated in the Douala III council, as radio Balafon reports from the Nation's economic capital.

Radio Balafon tells the story of a young girl who escaped from the hands of these unscrupulous fellows some weeks ago, after bribing one of them.

She was kidnapped after withdrawing money from a bank. As the girl left the bank, she needed to get home either by boarding a taxi or a bike.  It was then a bike which she took. After riding for over a considerable distance, the bike rider stopped following the direction to the girls destination. She noticed and started shouting for help but nobody could help her.

At one point, she was transfered into a yellow vehicle.  In that car, there was a woman in her forties and a young girl. They all were driven to an unknown location and locked in a room where there were other youngsters,  boys and girls alike, who were raped and killed at any given moment.

Following the girl's narration at Radio balafon, it was only thanks to her ability to bribe one of the men who had taken them hostage  with the money she collected from the bank, that she managed to escaped.

Speaking to a number of inhabitants of that area, they said it was due to the absence of electricity and the frequent circulation of drugs in Japoma that all of the atrocities were happening there.
