Reconstruction of the Murder of Sylvie Louisette Ngo Yebel Unveils Gruesome Details
Authorities in Yaoundé led Landry Yebel, an ENAM student accused of matricide, to the crime scene for a reconstruction, shedding light on the chilling events that rocked the Damas neighborhood.
Yebel had previously confessed to strangling his grandmother and dismembering his mother before discarding her remains in a suitcase.
According to the reconstruction of events, Landry's mother visited him in the Damas district, where he was newly installed. An argument erupted when she noticed that furniture purchased for him had disappeared. In a fit of rage, Landry suffocated his mother with a pillowcase before gruesomely dismembering her with a hacksaw.
The next day, Landry enlisted the help of a friend, unaware of the sinister deed, to dispose of his mother's vehicle. The matricide is all the more shocking as Landry had previously ended the life of his grandmother in November 2023.
Landry, a recent graduate of ENAM as an administrative secretary, was apprehended by gendarme forces on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Following the crime, he meticulously dismembered the body and concealed the parts in two suitcases, which he then disposed of in a stream near the family home in the Etoa-Meki district of Yaoundé.
Recent tensions between the victim and her son, coupled with Landry's alleged drug use, are believed to have contributed to the tragic outcome. Landry now faces charges for the murder of both his mother and grandmother, casting a dark shadow over the community and prompting soul-searching questions about the root causes of such senseless violence.
The victim, known for her work in communication and environmental conservation, leaves behind a legacy of dedication to her profession and the preservation of Central African forests. As investigations into both cases unfold, the nation mourns the loss of innocent lives and demands accountability for these heinous crimes.
