(CAF) to discuss Cameroon’s preparedness to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will on Wednesday discuss Cameroon’s preparedness to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). CAF Director of Communications Junior Binyam said the continental football authority will hold the deliberations after receiving a report from consultancy firm Roland Berger, which toured the country from 12-23 January to assess preparations.

“An intermediary report will be sent by the inspectors,” Binyam said. “That will be part of the Africa Cup of Nations committee agenda on 31 January.” “The report of the Nations Cup committee meeting is part of the Executive Committee agenda on 1 February.” CAF is scheduled to hold a General Assembly on Friday, 2 February at the Hyatt Regency in Casablanca, Morocco. Morocco, which is currently hosting the African Nations Championship, won the rights after Kenya was stripped of the same following an assessment by CAF officials which revealed that the East African country was behind schedule on preparations. CAF President Ahmad Ahmad in August 2017 said that Cameroon would have to convince the body that it was ready to host the tournament.

The competition was expanded from 16 to 24 teams, and is scheduled to be staged in five different stadia in the Cameroonian cities of Bafoussam, Douala, Garoua, Limbe and Yaounde. A decision is expected to be made public after the General Assembly.
