"Jeune Afrique May be Banned in Cameroon"- Tchiroma

The Minister of Communication and Government spokesman has threatened to ban French magazine, Jeune Afrique for its critical stance on Cameroon's long serving leader Paul Biya and the country.

Issa Tchiroma Bakary who was addressing pressmen in Yaounde says the repeated attacks on Cameroon by the publication is aimed at "destabilizing the nation, undermining the country's intergrity."

Tchiroma's outburst came on the heels of another firebrand article against the regime this time through former Secretary General at the Presidency, Marafa Hamidou Yaya

Marafa now incarcerated for stealing from the state purse slammed the regime for sending him to prison unjustly. He revealed to Jeune Afrique that he is paying the price for advising President Biya not to vie for another term.

The government songbird described the former  regime baron's remarks as malicious, giving a chronological run down of the events leading to the imprisonment of Marafa. He also gave numerous instances where the French publication had written about the Head of state or Cameroon in bad, warning the media organ to stop sowing seeds of chaos or they will be taken off circulation in the country.

The communication minister is calling on Cameroonians to stay focused and not be derailed by those whose ambition is to destabilize the country.

The relationship between the Regime and Jeune Afrique which was very cordial has taken an ugly twist over the last decade leaving political and media commentators to suspect that the severed marriage could be linked to the shaky relationship between Yaounde and Paris.
