Cameroon is one of the nations that will be participating in the Francophonie games scheduled to begin today 20 July 2017 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The delegation which is made up of 89 athletes from various sports disciplines arrived the host country on Wednesday 19 July, after a “good bye” ceremony at the Multipurpose sports complex during which athletes of the different sports disciplines as well as their coaches, were received by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Pierre Ismael Bidoung Kpwatt.

Arriving in Abidjan on Wednesday, the Cameroon under-20 football team, had their first training session in preparation for matches today.

Cameroon has gone with a team stronger than the one which they had four years ago during the previous edition which took place in France. In Nice, they emerged the second best African team, with three gold medals, seven in silver and seven bronze medals.

In Basketball, the female team from Cameroon who are equally partaking in the games are taking this as an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming women’s Afrobasket , which will run from 17-28 August 2017.

An “okada” man was met with inhumane treatment and subsequently locked up on Wednesday 19 July 2017, for reading a Newspaper. This provoked a spontaneous reaction from the bike riders, who have so far been demonstrating agreeable solidarity in this Anglophone struggle.

The victim whose names were gotten as Atanga Durand, had gone to a newspaper stand just like any other person to get himself updated. After seeing a story on the Ambazonian Struggle, he felt excited and was trying to lay more emphasis to people around him, on the fact that there will be no school resumption if a referendum is not passed for the English speaking part of the country to decide on their fate.

He did not know that, Biya’s spy was around. He only knew it when he had been bundled up and taken to the police station, where he was tortured and locked up.

Other bike riders learned about what had happened and reacted immediately, blocking roads. They demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Durand, who according to them, committed no crime and did not deserve to be treated as such.

The inaugural flight from the Yaounde-Nsimalen airport to Bamenda in the North West Region, is expected to take place today 20 July 2017.

This comes after a test flight took place on 4 July 2017 from Douala to Bamenda. The duration of this flight is estimated to be shorter than the one which will be carried out today given that instead of the 45 minutes which were used for the flight, the Yaounde- Bamenda distance will take 50 minutes.

At 10:30am, the Camairco plane will take off from the Nsimalen airport and by 11:20am, it will be landing in Bamenda.

The Minister of Transport Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o will be there to witness everything that shall be taking place.

An initiative such as this one comes with joy but that will not be the case in Bamenda. This is because most of the people resident in that part of the Country are asking for something else; their rights and freedom, thus they consider this move as a motive by the government to divert their attention.

The commander of the Mbouda Gendarmerie station in the West Region, has been deposed for having links with men of the underworld.

Richard Mbomo as he is called, had been subject to a number of accusations for working hand in hand with armed robbers whom he was supposed to be fighting against.

The affair degenerated when a young girl was kidnapped by a 45 year old, who felt like satisfying his sexual desires. After a search was carried out, he was caught red handed, raping the girl.

The girl’s father, who was the one that caught them, was well beaten by the rapist. His cries attracted residents of that neighbourhood, who came and bundled him up to the Brigade station of Mbouda.

The following day, the unfortunate family went to check the criminal, and file a case against him. On reaching there, they discovered that the shameless man had disappeared. This served as a confirmation of all the accusations that had been tabled against Richard Mbomo, who was dismissed as a result.

The Senior Divisional officer of the Ocean Division in the South Region of Cameroon, as published by Le Messager Newspaper on 18 July 2017, signed a release prohibiting the trafficking of children below 14 years in his Administrative setting.

He warned parents who would go against this decision, threatening them with severe sanctions.

The Divisional Administrator makes it clear, “the labour of children below 14 years is strictly prohibited all over the National territory. Every parent is thus called upon not to submit their children to commercial slavery but rather, they should look after them during holidays. Anyone who goes against this will be sanctioned accordingly”.

This decision was not warmly received by a greater part of the population “the SDO is not aware of our realities. My children have to help me prepare to meet up with their school needs. Is he the one who will come and buy their school requirements? I cannot cease from sending them to go and sell. Let him do his worst. If the children are seen and taken off the streets, I will abandon the kids with them and they will be the ones running after me to come and get them” a business woman commented.

While the population is against this move, Associations for the rights of the child, are strongly behind the SDO. They say the administrator should be congratulated for the step taken. “Someone needed to start from somewhere” they added. They further reiterated that, strict measures against child labour should put in place and well respected.

Four employees of the Buea Council, where Ekema Patrick is Mayor, organised a protest on Monday morning of 17 July.

They went to the residence of the Governor of the South West Region to demand 24 months of unpaid salaries. The protesters say they are determined to go to the end of this.

“They want to see where we are going to end. We will prove to them that, we are determined to continue till we obtain what we want. It is our right, it is our money. We don’t know what we will do to send our children to school. The Mayor is building houses everywhere and changes his workers all the time” Hans Manga one of the protesters reacted to Equinox radio.

Mayor Ekema is presently in hot sauce with his fake certificate drama. All of his bad deeds seem to be pouring out in their numbers as he is struggling to come to terms with fact that he is a fraud.
