English-speaking Cameroonians in the North West and South West Regions are defying the massive troop deployments and brutality and going ahead to declare and celebrate independence from the francophone majority which they see as discriminating against them for 56 years.
Administrative authorities in the area on instructions of President Paul Biya are making good on their promise to shoot to kill anyone even peacefully protesting in their streets. The Governor of the South West Region a few days ago called the protesters dogs and promised merciless military force for demonstrators today.
Already information filtering out of the regions under siege speak of untold clampdown on massive turnout of men, women and children. Some fatalities have been reported. One man has been shot dead in Santa in the North West Region and another person between life and death in a Muyuka hospital in the South West Region after taking bullets in the stomach. Apparently the soldiers are using live ammunition in confronting the population. These are only the reports that have reached this news writer.

It would be recalled that President Biya and his wife are said to be in one of the most expensive hotels in the world in Geneva as these street fights between unarmed but determined anglophones and soldiers armed to the teeth are going on today.
