Anglophone Crisis Cameroon: Philemon Yang's meeting might be fruitless in Mezam
For the third time since November 2016, the Prime Minister Philemon Yang yesterday Monday 06 March 2017 again visited Bamenda to seek ways of resolving the ongoing Anglophone crisis. He held the first meeting of his tour in Bamenda mezam division and appealed to parents to send their children to school so as to avoid poor results at the GCE examinations.
The meeting was attended at the Bamenda congress hall by mostly parents, teachers and religious leaders. “The greatest empowerment we can ever have is education. Don’t give it away for anything. Even if you cannot go out to see your friends and take a beer, do not sacrifice on education, that is the one place to go. It is an embarrassment on the international scene” say PM Philemon Yang.
“The government still has not said single statement to apologize for the massive killings of unarmed civilians.
The arbitrary arrests should stop. Our detainees because of the grievances that the president himself has acknowledged should be freed” says Hon. Fusi Naamukong Wilfred, MP for Mezam North, and the crowd cheers. “And if they are freed, our internet should be restored. When our internet is restored and people are no longer being arbitrarily arrested, we will now start feeling as part of this country” he adds.
Some MPs also called for the demilitarization of Bamenda and some expressed worries over the insecurity of their children saying it might not be safe to send their children to school.
The meeting ended with no clear resolutions as all parties seemed to be demanding for the unconditional release of all those who were arrested and abducted during the months.
Some onlookers called this first day meeting “a Fiasco”
Although school resumption has been slated today 7 of March 2017, it remains unknown whether or not it is going to be effective.
The prime Minister is expected to visit 6 other divisions of the North West region before moving to the south west region for the same expedition.
