Bamenda: Gruesome Discovery Raises Alarming Questions
In a chilling development, the lifeless head of an individual was discovered at the Azire Old Church in Bamenda, Cameroon, on April 4th, 2024. Suspicion immediately falls on Ambazonian rebel fighters, who have been advocating for the restoration of independence in the region, formerly known as Southern Cameroons.

Witnesses to the gruesome scene described a shocking event where two individuals, identified as Isubo and Slow and affiliated with the Ambazonian group, swiftly left the head behind. "It happened so fast; we saw a car make a sharp turn and speed away, leaving behind a green bag containing the head, detached from the body," recounted a visibly distraught eyewitness.
According to gathered information, this barbaric act appears to originate from the Ntaturu locality, sparking widespread surprise and deep concern within the community already reeling from previous assaults. The loss of yet another innocent life has plunged residents into mourning, prompting urgent calls for justice to be served.
Tragically, this incident is not an isolated one. The grim practice of Ambazonian fighters, and in some cases the military, leaving severed heads and lifeless bodies in public places has become a harrowing reality.
In February 2024, the lifeless body of Ambazonian rebel general Effang was callously dumped at a market square in Batibo by the military, remaining unattended for weeks.
Similarly, the remains of General Field Marshall in Kumba suffered a similar fate, displayed at a market square for all to see by the military. Earlier, in 2016, Raster Man (Sam Sawyer) was infamously beheaded by Cameroonian soldiers in Belo, an act captured in a chilling video.
In a sinister cycle of violence, the military has retaliated by publicly displaying the bodies of separatist fighters, further escalating tensions and trapping innocent civilians in the crossfire.
Ambazonian groups have taken to social media, posting images of the lifeless head alongside claims of capturing a high-ranking Cameroonian army commander. However, the authenticity of these claims remains unverified.
The conflict, which began as a low-scale insurgency, has since spread across the Anglophone regions, resulting in thousands of deaths and the displacement of over half a million people. Despite the worsening humanitarian crisis, the Cameroonian government continues to downplay the severity of the situation, failing to take decisive action to address the root causes of the conflict.
As the crisis deepens, the international community's response remains limited, leaving the people of Bamenda and beyond trapped in a cycle of violence with no end in sight.
