Cameroon's Civil Society Endorses Issa Tchiroma’s Election Win
[YAOUNDÉ, Oct 15 — Cameroon Concord Political Desk] In a major development that further consolidates Issa Tchiroma Bakary’s claim to the presidency, the Collectif des Organisations de la Société Civile Camerounaise (COSCLDC)has issued an official communiqué recognizing his victory in the October 12 presidential election.

Signed in Yaoundé by President Atangaga Gilbert Sébastien and Secretary-General Garba Djidaris, the declaration praises the “maturity and civic sense” demonstrated by Cameroonians during the historic vote and congratulates the opposition leader on what it calls “a clear and legitimate victory.”
“The Collectif extends its distinguished congratulations to His Excellency Mr. Issa Tchiroma Bakary, elected President of the Republic of Cameroon at the end of the presidential election of 12 October 2025,” the statement reads.
Civil Society Steps Forward
The COSCLDC, a broad platform representing more than 200 national organizations, described the election as “a turning point for democratic renewal.”
It commended voters for their high turnout and restraint despite intimidation and alleged irregularities reported in several regions.
“The process demonstrated a spirit of responsibility among political and social actors,” the communiqué noted, calling on all institutions to honor the will of the people.
The group emphasized its readiness to work with the new administration to strengthen democratic governance, human rights protection, and sustainable development.
A Call for Unity and Inclusion
In an implicit appeal to calm, the COSCLDC encouraged the President-Elect to prioritize reconciliation and national cohesion.
“We encourage President-Elect Issa Tchiroma to consolidate national unity, institutional stability, and the well-being of all Cameroonians, in a spirit of openness and dialogue,” the collective said.
Political observers told Cameroon Concord that this endorsement from the country’s leading civil society coalition represents “an unprecedented moral alignment” behind Tchiroma’s candidacy and a clear signal to both domestic and international stakeholders.
A Turning Point for Cameroon
Analysts note that the COSCLDC statement adds momentum to the wave of acknowledgements already coming from opposition parties, religious leaders, and local observers confirming Tchiroma’s decisive lead in multiple regions.
The declaration, issued as tensions mount over alleged attempts to alter vote tallies, could reinforce public pressure on ELECAM and the Constitutional Council to publish the authentic results without manipulation.
“Civil society has spoken with one voice,” said a Yaoundé-based political analyst. “This is a collective validation of what the ballot box already revealed — that Cameroonians voted for change.”
