Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

RABAT, Nov 12 —

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon continue preparations in Morocco for their 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoff first leg against the DR Congo Leopards, but injuries have disrupted coach Marc Brys’s plans.

Squad Hit by Injuries

Team press officer Thierry Ndoh confirmed that both Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Franck Zambo Anguissa sustained injuries during training.
Choupo-Moting, who recently joined the New York Red Bulls, suffered a knee sprain, while Anguissa of Napoli picked up a muscle strain on Tuesday’s second training day in Rabat.

With Danny Namasso already ruled out since Monday, the roster has thinned to 24 fit players.

Onana Doubt Adds to Concerns

Goalkeeper André Onana’s participation in Thursday’s match remains uncertain.
Officials declined to specify the reason, but sources suggest the Manchester United shot-stopper arrived in camp with a minor knock from club duty.
His absence would be a major setback for a side already struggling to stabilize after recent tactical changes.

Training and Match Details

Despite the setbacks, Vincent Aboubakar and Martin Hongla joined the squad, bringing the total to 27 players before injuries reduced the count.
The Lions held their final training session on Wednesday evening at 20:00 in Rabat, focusing on defensive coordination and set-piece drills.
Coach Brys is expected to finalize his starting lineup on match day, emphasizing compact play and quick transitions to counter DR Congo’s physical approach.

Context

Cameroon seeks a return to the World Cup after their 2022 Qatar campaign ended in the group stage despite a famous win over Brazil.
The playoff series against DR Congo will determine who advances to the final qualification round for North America 2026.
