Cameroon:World Bank Managing Director To Be In Yaounde Soon

The Managing Director of the World Bank Group, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, is expected in Cameroon on 25 April 2016, we learned in a communiqué published on 20 April by this Bretton Woods institution. During her stay in Cameroon, Sri Mulyani Indrawati will meet with the Cameroonian public authorities as well as representatives of the private sector and local civil society.

According to the World Bank, this work visit is meant to “strengthen the partnership” with Cameroon and “discuss the priorities of the government: promote an inclusive growth and address the regional disparities in poverty, implement the structural reforms for faster growth, and improve the business environment for the creation of jobs”.  

Additionally, the Managing Director of the World Bank Group will seize the opportunity to exchange with the beneficiaries of the "Projet Filets sociaux", which the institution she manages is financing in Cameroon with FCfa 25 billion since 2014. This project to benefit 420,000 persons perceived as vulnerable in urban and rural areas consists in cash transfers every 2 months, for a total amount of FCfa 720,000 (approximately US$ 1,400), as well as training activities to improve their health, nutrition, education and skills.

According to Elisabeth Huybens, Director of Operations of the World Bank for Cameroon, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and São Tomé and Príncipe; for Cameroon in particular, "the active portfolio of the World Bank has 14 national and 6 regional projects". These projects represent a total of FCfa 715 billion, she highlighted on 16 March 2016 in Yaoundé. This was during the joint review of projects funded by this institution in Cameroon.
