World-renowned heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a serious road accident on Monday on the outskirts of Lagos, Nigeria’s main economic and commercial hub, according to multiple local news outlets.

Reports indicate that the vehicle in which the boxer was travelling was involved in a collision with a stationary truck. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear, and investigations are currently ongoing.

Sources close to the rescue operation confirmed that Joshua sustained only minor injuries and was immediately taken to hospital for medical attention. However, the incident proved fatal for two occupants of the vehicle, who were pronounced dead at the scene. Another survivor was also hospitalised.

At the time of the crash, Joshua was reportedly travelling in a convoy, accompanied by members of his security detail in a separate vehicle. Emergency responders and road safety officials arrived shortly after the incident and coordinated rescue and evacuation efforts.

Authorities are yet to issue a detailed official statement, but inquiries into the cause of the accident are continuing.

The news has triggered widespread concern among fans and members of the global boxing community, with social media flooded with messages wishing the former world champion a swift recovery.

The accident comes just days after Joshua’s high-profile heavyweight victory over Jake Paul in a bout dubbed “Judgment Day,” held on Friday, December 19, 2025, in Miami—an event that had reaffirmed his status as one of the most influential figures in modern boxing.

As investigations continue, the sporting world awaits further updates on the incident and on Joshua’s condition.
