19th edition of children’s parliament held in Yaounde, marking the day of African child
The 27th edition of the day of the African child, is being commemorated today 16 June 2017 all over Africa. In Cameroon, it will be marked by the holding of the children’s parliament in Yaounde.
During this meeting, the children parliamentarians will have the opportunity to ask questions to government ministers, concerning the well being of the child in Cameroon. In the present era, children have been facing trafficking of all sorts. The kids are transformed into slaves, who do everything for their elders, no matter how tedious the tasks might be.
This year’s edition is celebrated under the theme, “the 2030 agenda for a sustainable development in favour of children in Africa: let’s encourage their protection, their empowerment and equal opportunities for all”
Some activities are being carried out to mark this day. Yesterday, the Minister of Social Affairs, Pauline Irene Nguene opened a forum called “child Protection Boulevard”. This forum according to her, is an opportunity for stakeholders who are leading this fight for the children, to sensitize and educate the population on the essence of protecting our children from all forms of violence.
Activities for the day continue today at the National Museum in Yaounde. Parents in particular, will be drilled by experts on how they should respect the rights of their kids, as well as set their limits. The right of children to education, will equally be emphasised on, as that is one of the most important things a parent can ever give their child in this life.
