Attack on National Chairman's Convoy in Biya's Region: SDF Blasts Regime, Accuses CPDM of Fanning Hate and Tribalism
The opposition Social Democratic Front (SDF) has strongly condemned the attack on the convoy of its National Chairman, Hon. Joshua Osih, in Biwung Bulu, Mvila Division of the South Region on Sunday, May 5.
The convoy was halted in the locality of Biwung Bulu, leaving Hon. Osih and the members of his delegation stranded.
In response to the incident, the SDF has accused the regime of President Paul Biya of orchestrating the attack to fuel hate, division, and xenophobia. Residents of the area reportedly made derogatory remarks and vowed to prevent Hon. Osih from advancing.
Gendarmes allegedly stood by helplessly as youths, purportedly affiliated with the ruling Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM), blocked the road, preventing Hon. Osih and his delegation from accessing the village. The protesters declared that they recognized only one political party in the region - the CPDM of President Paul Biya.
The SDF has accused certain CPDM officials in President Biya's South Region of promoting discrimination, tribalism, and xenophobia. Despite the obstruction, the forces of law and order failed to intervene, and local administrative authorities refused to take action to clear the road.
The incident highlights the challenges faced by opposition parties in certain regions of Cameroon and underscores the complexities within the country's political environment. The SDF remains committed to fostering dialogue, promoting unity, and advancing the interests of all Cameroonians, regardless of political affiliation.
Hon. Joshua Osih and the SDF continue to advocate for meaningful change, inclusive governance, and the preservation of political pluralism and the integrity of the electoral process in Cameroon.
