Chase Ministers & their girlfriends away from Camair-Co, Fru Ndi tells Dikoum
Social Democratic Front (SDF) National Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, has advised the management of Cameroon Airline Corporation (Camair-Co) to chase away Government Ministers and Directors General of State Corporations who are using the national carrier to transport themselves and their girlfriends to Europe and France on credit.
According to the SDF Chieftain, it is such unruly behaviour by Government top notches that has not only indebted the corporation, but which has also inflicted huge financial scares on it.
“Camair-Co ran into serious financial difficulties that have kept it drowning in debts because Ministers and Directors carried their wives and girl friends to France and Europe and refused to pay the bills. If this bad practice continues, then Camair-Co is doomed,” Fru Ndi asserted.
The SDF National Chair was speaking in Bamenda July 20, during Camair-Co’s inaugural flight to the North West Region, over 30 years after a plane last landed at the Bafut Airport.
Meanwhile, earlier in his address, the Minister of Transport, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo’o, warned the North West population not to encroach into the Airport land.
To Mebe Ngo’o, the population quest for farm and building land should not be extended to the transport facility.
To Camair-Co’s staff, the Minister cautioned them to respect flight schedules and to be polite to customers.
On his part, the General Manager, GM, of Camair-Co, Ernest Dikoum, said “now that Bamenda has embraced Camair-Co, the economy, tourism and other facilities that come with air transport will follow. In effect, poverty and unemployment will be reduced...
Cardiovascular patients seeking treatment at the Shisong Hospital and other illnesses in specialised hospitals in the Northwest Region can travel faster and safer by Camair-Co.
This inaugural flight is an expression of our desire to extend the domestic network by providing three flights per week throughout the year between Douala, Yaounde and Bamenda.
Bamenda is an important market for our company. Its proximity with Nigeria, the presence of agricultural cooperatives, economic and commercial traders with varied profiles, academic institutions, chiefdoms and other touristic sites are all worth exploring.
The flights will be operated by our two MA 60 aircrafts- the Mantung and Logone – 45 seats each. The fare is FCFA 32,840 from Bamenda to Douala and Yaounde,” he said
Earlier in his welcome speech, Jude Waindim, Secretary General of the Bamenda City Council, said the population can only enjoy the airport if Government tackle the Babadjou-Bamenda Road and major roads in the city.
He encouraged Camair-Co to keep the flame alive, maintain the enthusiasm brought about by the inaugural flight.
