According to a statement from the presidency of the French Republic, "Madame Christiane TAUBIRA, Minister of Justice presented on January 27, 2016 her resignation letter to the President of the Republic who accepted it. They agreed on the need to terminate her functions at the time when the debate on the constitutional revision opened at the National Assembly's Law Commission. Christiane Taubira had publicly opposed the constitutional reform. 

The President of the Republic expressed satisfaction with the job done so far by Christiane TAUBIRA saying she headed the Justice department with conviction, determination and talent Reform of Justice and played a major role in the adoption of the marriage for all. To replace her, President François Hollande appointed Socialist MP Jean-Jacques URVOAS.
