MRC Demands Swift Justice: Confronting Allegations of Serial Rape with Urgency and Accountability
The Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) expresses its indignation in the face of unverified allegations circulating on social media concerning a gang of serial rapists, specifically targeting the youth, particularly young women. The MRC underscores the significant number of anonymous testimonies reporting presumed victims of this group of sexual predators.
In light of the silence from the police and judicial authorities of the country, the MRC questions the officials of relevant ministries, such as the Minister of Women and Family, the Minister of Social Affairs, the Minister of Youth and Civic Education, the Minister of State, Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, the Delegate General for National Security, and the Secretary of State for National Gendarmerie, regarding their awareness of these allegations of serious offenses against morals and human dignity, classified as crimes by the Cameroonian Penal Code.
The MRC calls on the government to take appropriate measures to shed light on this matter, reassure the public, and, if necessary, severely punish the alleged perpetrators in accordance with the law. The party emphasizes that the authorities' silence or indifference could lead to an increased sense of insecurity and potential vigilantism, endangering the rule of law.
Law enforcement and judicial authorities are urged to act swiftly, either to exonerate those gravely accused or to punish them in an exemplary manner.
