In a groundbreaking announcement, the General Delegate for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguele, shared on January 24th that a new identification system guaranteeing the delivery of national identity cards within 48 hours will be operational in 2024.

This innovative identification system will facilitate the continued extension and modernization of identity document production, following the success of the biometric passport issued within two days. The General Delegate for National Security also outlined other significant initiatives for 2024, including:

  • Recruitment of 12,500 police officers from 2021 to 2025.
  • Ongoing training for police officials.
  • Enhancement of the technical capabilities of police medical centers.
  • Integration of National Security border posts with Interpol's databases.
  • Activation of regional surveillance centers in Bertoua, Maroua, Garoua, and Ngaoundéré.

Moreover, plans include the construction of three centers for national ID card production and the doubling of registration centers across the nation from 280 to 548.
