Samuel Eto’o Offers Support to Victims of Floods in Far North Cameroon

Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fécafoot), has expressed his heartfelt support for the victims of the recent floods in the Far North region of Cameroon. With at least 11 fatalities reported, the climate disaster has left countless families in distress.

Eto’o, in a message aimed at offering comfort, referred to the affected individuals as his "brothers and sisters" and conveyed his "humble support" to those who have suffered due to the torrential rains.

Beyond words, the football icon provided financial aid to the victims, emphasizing that his gesture complements the assistance initiated by President Paul Biya, who has allocated 350 million CFA francs to support the relief efforts. Eto’o also recognized the government's ongoing efforts, particularly the humanitarian mission led by Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji.

Earlier today, Atanga Nji, joined by regional officials such as Naseri Paul Bea, the governor of the Centre Region, oversaw the departure of a significant humanitarian convoy from the Boulevard du 20 Mai in Yaoundé. The convoy, dispatched by the presidential couple, was headed to the flood-stricken Mayo-Danay region, carrying essential relief supplies. The convoy, comprising around fifty trucks, was loaded with emergency relief items such as temporary shelters, mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, food supplies, and sanitation kits, all intended to assist the vulnerable populations affected by the recent floods.

The relief efforts include not only the immediate provision of essential goods but also plans for the resettlement of displaced families and the reconstruction of crucial infrastructure like the Danay Bridge, which was severely damaged during the floods. Through this collective mobilization, the government and figures like Samuel Eto’o hope to alleviate the suffering of the affected communities and contribute to their recovery.
