Breaking

In a display of strong bilateral ties, Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong arrived in Cameroon on Wednesday evening, marking a significant step in the growing relationship between the two nations.

The distinguished envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping was warmly welcomed by Cameroonian Head of State, President Paul Biya, at the Unity Palace. The two leaders engaged in cordial discussions, as highlighted by President Biya's statement, "I had friendly talks today at the Unity Palace with Mr. Liu Guozhong, Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China, special envoy of President Xi Jinping."

Thursday morning saw Vice Premier Liu Guozhong visiting the construction site of the new headquarters of the Cameroonian National Assembly. This construction project is a generous gift from China to Cameroon, symbolizing the deepening cooperation between the two nations.

The Chinese government, in 2017, allocated a substantial sum of 16.7 billion FCFA to finance the construction of the National Assembly's new headquarters. This gesture underlines China's commitment to supporting Cameroon's infrastructural development and fostering diplomatic relations.

Beyond infrastructure, the economic collaboration between China and Cameroon has seen remarkable growth. Recent indicators reveal that China has emerged as Cameroon's leading supplier since 2021, capturing 17% of the market share, surpassing both France and the European Union. Additionally, China stands as the top destination for Cameroonian exports, constituting 26% of the country's total exports.

This visit not only showcases the tangible outcomes of Sino-Cameroonian cooperation but also underscores the strategic importance of their partnership. As Liu Guozhong explores the ongoing construction project, it symbolizes the shared vision of progress and mutual benefit between these two nations.

As the new headquarters of the National Assembly takes shape, it stands as a testament to the enduring friendship between Cameroon and China, reflecting the collaborative spirit that defines their diplomatic and economic relationship.
