FIFA condemns Russia's "racial attitude" towards Cameroon
The world governing body of football FIFA has condemned Saturday's parade in Russia which featured men in blackface make-up representing Cameroon.
FIFA issued a statement saying the "displays are inappropriate...blackening of faces is considered discriminatory and will not be tolerated in the stadiums", Yahoo reports.
The parade on Saturday was organized in the city of Sochi where Cameroon will play a match against Germany during the Confederations Cup.
The show, which featured groups representing all the nations which will play in the city of Sochi, was led by the mayor , Anatoy Pakhomov. Two men among them had reportedly painted themselves black. One carried a string with carved bananas.
But the mayor has apologised for any unruly behaviour which was never among the objectives of the parade." I'm sorry if any of the participants lacked an elementary sense of taste," he said.
Cameroon join seven other nations this month in Russia for the games.
