Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

General Pierre Semengue has been elected president of Cameroon’s Professional Football League, PFLC. The 81 year old retired Army General was voted last July 28 in Yaounde by the Presidents of the elite one and two clubs.

According to an official publication of the results, General Semengue secured an absolute majority of 26 votes as against 7 for Frank Happy Fanguen, his rival.

Out of the 35 expected presidents expected, only 33 went to the polls. Lions4life learnt that, the President of Union Movement Sportive, UMS, of Loum came late while Eding FC of Yaounde did not vote.

Speaking to the press, the newly elected expressed satisfaction over the elections and promised to collaborate with all the presidents for the development of football in Cameroon.

“I am very happy for winning the elections and my road map is that of the league. I am going to collaborate with all the team presidents especially the president of Union of Douala, Frank Happy for the development of football in Cameroon,” stated General Pierre Semengue.

Even though disappointed, Frank Happy said he was going to cooperate especially with his club Union of Douala. “I am disappointed with the outcome of the results because I thought we could challenge General Pierre Semengue.
The problems of the league now lie on the shoulders of the newly elected and to me I will concentrate with my club.”

To Pascal Abunde, President of PWD of Bamenda, “it was not easy at the beginning but I think both parties are satisfied with the remarkable decree of democracy projected during the elections. This election is the beginning of a new era and the real work begins now.”

General Pierre Semengue will be assisted by Domkeu Fustin of New Stars of Douala and Mbairobe Gabriel from Coton Sport of Garoua, first and second vice presidents respectively.

It should be noted that, the retired General who was appointed in 2011 to head the league activities becomes the first elected president of the League.

Going by his campaign message, the newly elected president will have to make his words come true in constructing five giant football stadiums in Maroua, Bamenda, Bafoussam, kumba and Kribi.

Sport pundits are of the opinion that once in office; these lofty programs will end up in papers like other initiatives that have died a natural death despite good developments they may bring.
