Rigobert Song Bahanak’s announced trip to the NW and SW, likened to Clay in the Porters Hands
Many Cameroonians were filled with joy when the one time highly respected indomitable lions captain Rigober Song Bahanak returned to Cameroon from his treatment trip abroad, but his quick decision to visit the two Anglophone regions of Cameroon barely few days after his arrival has attracted much criticisms from critics as they have likened this decision to something else; something deeper than it appears.
Critics say the promise of the Lion King to pay a thank you visit to the two Anglophone regions may have been politically motivated.
“I think the government is using the principle that one good turn deserves another; they have funded the treatment of Song Bahanak and they now want him to use his popularity to get between things and weaken our fight. I think the government is trying to manipulate Song like clay in their hands” says a critic.
Some have saluted his intentions; say the visit may just be timely as it may help to water the ground for meaningful dialogue between various stakeholders of the current situation.
“I think critics should take it easy on Song Bahanak. His intentions may be personal and as a person of good faith, will not like to remain silent on a situation that is tearing the country apart. He might just be the one person we need right now to bring together the various pieces of the puzzle” says an onlooker.
However, while critics and well-wishers differ in opinions, some onlookers say it is still too early to judge.
