Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

Two of the Southwest legendary clubs, Mount Cameroon FC of Buea , aka Lava Boys will take on Victoria United of Limbe, aka OPOPO(One People, One Power) at the final of the Southwest Regional League on September 18.

After the tough away leg of the semi finals, that saw Mount Cameroon edged Cinyodev  FC of Buea 1-0 at the Tiko Town Green Stadium, the Lava Boys showed so much steam during the return leg on Sunday, September 11, as they walloped their opponent 3-0(4-0 aggregate).

On her part, Victoria United, aka Opopo after a 4-2 triumph in the first leg over their opponent, Catholic University Sports Academy (CUIB), cemented their victory in the return leg with a 1-0 win (5-2 aggregate).

The Limbe side, who were one of the favourites to represent the region at the National Interpools tournament for ascension into League 2 last year, was stunned by Continental FC of Buea. This time, they well be looking forward to correcting the errors they made last year.

Founded in 1997 by Hon. Calvin Foinding, Mount Cameroon FC competed for more than 12 years in Elite One. They took football in the region to the pinnacle in 2002 when they became the first club in the region and second West of the Mungo to lift the Cup of Cameroon. However, in January 10, 2007, Mount Cameroon was relegated into the inferior Division 3 league by FECAFOOT.

On her part, Victoria United a.k.a Opopo, One People One Power was relegated into Division II in 2004 as a result of managerial lapses. After two years in the Elite Division I championship for two years running, Opopo were plunged into managerial hiccups when the then CDC General Manager, Henry Njalla Quan who headed the team into Division I, in October 16, 2003 resigned.

Both teams after a long absence from top flight football in Cameroon will be looking forward to picking the lone ticket to represent the region.
