The 12th Edition of the FENASCO B games suffers a head-on collision with ghosts in Bamenda
The 12th edition of the FENASCO B games that opened in Bamenda this Monday under the hospices of the Minster of basic education Yusuf Hadija Alim met a Ghost town as the Bamenda inhabitants were observing one of their many “Contri Sundays” they call it.
The event launching took place at Commercial Avenue with the marching dancing and display of competing schools taking preeminence.
According to the Minister of Basic education the games which is reserved for primary school pupils to compete for medals has become more and more popular during the years; a value that should be sustained.
Unfortunately, inhabitants of Bamenda seemed to be interested in something else; something that according to them has been neglected by the government.
“Today is ‘Contri Sunday’ because we want the government to know that we are not happy. We have been asking for our internet and the release of all those who were captured in the struggle and the government has refused to grant these requests. We are no longer interested in anything that the government is organizing here in Bamenda” says an onlooker.
Critics express worries over the competitive approaches to the problem used by both the government and protesters in the two Anglophone regions. They say for events such as the FENASCO B games to go on hitch free and in earnest, the government and the population must vibrate at the same frequency.
