Former Burkina Faso president Blaise Compaoré is set to go on trial in November over the alleged assassination of former president Thomas Sankara.
Following his ouster from the presidency, the Burkinabe military tribunal issued a warrant of arrest against Compaoré in connection with the assassination of his predecessor.
A commissioner of the tribunal, Alioune Zanre told journalists that 13 others will also face trial in connection with the crime.
As part of the investigation, the military tribunal indicted 13 other suspects in connection with the assassination of Thomas Sankara in 1987.
Seven are in custody, four have not been detained while two others are still on the run.
The two are Blaise Compaore and Hyacinte Kafando, his chief bodyguard at the time of Sankara’s death.
Fifty-two witnesses and thirteen civil parties are expected at the trial.

With apologies and pleas, Democrats did everything possible to turn the first day of their convention from discord to unity – to emerge looking ahead to a party unified for victory in November.
Late in the evening when Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders emerged, loud applause kept the insurgent candidate from even speaking for several minutes. Delegates who had booed the prospect of a Hillary Clinton presidency earlier in the day seemed to accept Sanders’ plea to support her against Donald Trump in the November election. They chanted his name and mouthed along with familiar slogans from his campaign rallies even in what seemed to be the last moment of the 74-year-old’s unlikely candidacy.
“Any objective observer will conclude that, based on her ideas and her leadership, Hillary Clinton must become the next president of the United States. The choice is not even close,” Sanders told the crowd.
On the floor of the convention, there were cheers, but when Sanders spoke to a group of his own supporters earlier, he encountered jeers and boos as he urged that they join Clinton.

A Nigerian former militant group said on Sunday it has been holding talks with the government to end a wave of attacks on oil and gas facilities in the Niger Delta which has crippled the country's crude output.
On Thursday, the office of President Muhammadu Buhari said the government was using oil firms and security agencies to talk to the militants "to find a lasting solution to insecurity in the region".
"The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) wishes to confirm that indeed it has been in preliminary talks with the Federal Government through oil companies and law-enforcement agencies," the group said in a statement.
MEND is a major former militant group which signed in 2009 an amnesty in exchange for cash and job training brokered by the previous government.
It said the Niger Delta Avengers, a militant group that has claimed responsibility for a series of recent attacks, would not be part of the dialogue.
"The Federal Government made it clear during our meetings that a negotiation with criminals is out of the question," MEND said. "The Niger Delta Avengers...fall under this category."
The Niger Delta Avengers group had on Thursday said it was not aware of any talks with the government.
Security sources have linked the Avengers to former commanders in MEND. Both groups hail from the same area.
Militants say they want a greater share of Nigeria's oil wealth to go to the impoverished Delta region. Crude sales make up about 70 percent of national income and the vast majority of that oil comes from the southern swampland.
Nigeria, an OPEC member, was Africa's top oil producer until the recent spate of attacks pushed it behind Angola.
Enforcing any peace deal would be difficult as the militant scene is divided into small groups where leaders do not control the unemployed youth they recruit.

The Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reforms, Michel Ange Angouing, has urged the new Board Chair of the National School of Administration and Magistracy (ENAM), Malegho Joseph Aseh, to ensure that the Board of Directors effectively plays its role in controlling the management of the institution instead of acting as a rubber stamp.
While commissioning the new Board Chair in a colourful ceremony that held in ENAM on July 22, 2016, Michel Ange Angouing said the July 11, 2016 appointment by President Paul Biya was one more evidence of his trust in youth, given that 49 year-old Malegho Joseph is one of the two youngest Board Chairs in the country. “Be a modern Board Chair and ensure clean and transparent management of ENAM’s resources,” Minister Angouing instructed Malegho Joseph after stating the missions of the Board.
Speaking earlier, the Director General of ENAM, Linus Toussaint Mendjana, said Malegho Joseph Aseh’s appointment filled a long vacancy created after the demise of his predecessor, late Abanda Atangana Anicet Ludovic who occupied the function from 2009 until his death in November 2013. Linus Toussaint Medjana wished for continuity in the smooth collaboration between the Board and Management, expressing hope that the new Board Chair would bring his management style to ignite a new beginning for the institution he graduated from in 1997.
Since 2009, Malegho Joseph Aseh, a Third Grade Magistrate, was already present in the Board of Directors as representative of the Presidency of the Republic where he works as an Attaché in the Secretariat General. Married and a father of four, Malegho Joseph Aseh is the fourth Board Chair in the history of ENAM.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Finance, Alamine Ousmane Mey, amongst other dignitaries, guests, friends, well-wishers and relatives.
