Tchiroma to Citizens: Remain Peaceful, Remain Standing
[GAROUA, Oct 28] – Cameroon’s opposition leader and self-declared president-elect Issa Tchiroma Bakary has issued a powerful national address rejecting what he called “distorted results” announced by the Constitutional Council, accusing the body of betraying its mandate and aligning with Paul Biya’s regime.

“The Council has turned from guardian of truth into an enemy of the people’s sovereignty,” Tchiroma said, condemning the proclamation that handed Biya another seven-year term.
He asserted that the authentic results, collected and archived by his representatives across the country, prove beyond doubt that the opposition coalition won “by a wide margin.”
“These results,” he stressed, “belong to the Cameroonian people, not to me.”
Paying tribute to protesters killed during the weekend marches, Tchiroma described them as “martyrs of liberty whose sacrifice will never be in vain.”
He thanked citizens for defying intimidation and standing firm “against a regime that has become criminal,” declaring that “this time they will not stop us – we have already won.”
Calling for an end to arbitrary arrests and the “barbarity of a state at war with its own citizens,” Tchiroma said that plunging the nation into bloodshed to cling to power “is not only immoral; it is a crime against humanity.”
He urged supporters to remain mobilised but peaceful:
“Our strength is our unity. Our victory cannot be stolen. The people will not retreat.”
Tchiroma appealed to the international community to “take responsibility” and warned that all those complicit in repression would face justice before international courts.
He closed his message with a call for dignity and perseverance, invoking the legacy of Cameroon’s founding fathers and reaffirming faith in a “free, sovereign nation where truth will triumph over fear.”
