Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

The sudden and tragic death of Portuguese international Diogo Jota has sparked an outpouring of grief across the football world. The latest to pay tribute is Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of Al Nassr and a longtime teammate in the national team.

At the Nations League 2024, Cristiano Ronaldo (40, r.) and Diogo Jota († 28) are still together. Portugal legend Pepe (42, l.) was also there

Jota, 28, reportedly died alongside his brother André in a fatal car accident in Zamora province, northwest Spain, during the night of Wednesday into Thursday. The Liverpool striker had been on vacation, just weeks ahead of the 2025-2026 season kickoff.

The tragedy comes less than two weeks after his wedding to longtime partner Rute Cardoso in Porto. The couple had three children.

Taking to social media, Ronaldo expressed his shock and sorrow:

“It makes no sense. We were together in the national team, and then you got married. To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you’ll always be with them. Rest in peace, Diogo and André. We will all miss you.”

Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolverhampton and quickly became a key figure in the club’s attack. He was part of the squad that won the Premier League last season under new manager Arne Slot.

Since news of his death broke, tributes have poured in from clubs, teammates, and fans, all describing Jota as a dedicated professional and a humble presence on and off the pitch.
