Dispute Between FECAFOOT and Ministry of Sports Delays Appointment of Cameroonian National Football Team Staff
The recent appointment of the new technical and medical staff for the Cameroonian national football team has hit a roadblock, with the Federation Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT) withholding approval for certain key members of the coaching staff.
During the contract signing ceremony held on Monday, April 8, Marc Brys, along with his assistants, signed contracts for a tenure of 2 and a half years. However, five staff members, namely Benjamin Banlock, Dany Nounkeu, Hervé Mveng, Germain Noël Essengue, and Lobe Didier, were unable to sign their engagement documents due to FECAFOOT's lack of agreement.
According to journalist Marc Chouamou, these individuals require mandatory approval from FECAFOOT to officially assume their roles. A meeting between FECAFOOT and the Ministry of Sports convened on Wednesday, April 10, at the Prime Minister's office to address the disagreements between the two parties.
This situation highlights a deeper rift between FECAFOOT and the Ministry of Sports regarding the appointment process. Despite an Emergency Committee meeting on Saturday, April 6, where Samuel Eto'o was mandated to appoint his staff within 72 hours, no action was taken. Consequently, Marc Brys commenced his duties without the full complement of his intended staff.
In light of these developments, there is speculation among observers of Cameroonian football that Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, the Minister of Sports, may reconsider his decision regarding the appointment of certain members, particularly the coordinator of national teams. The decree of 2014 explicitly entrusts this role to FECAFOOT, underscoring the need for alignment between the Ministry and the Federation in matters concerning the national team's management.
