MINSEP-AFD Partnership: Construction of 15 New Sports Infrastructures in 5 Cities of Cameroon
In a significant development for sports infrastructure in Cameroon, the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education (MINSEP) hosted a delegation from the French Development Agency (AFD) on Thursday, April 25, 2024.
Led by Mrs. Virginie DAGO, AFD Director in Cameroon, and accompanied by Mrs. Nina HADJI, Project Team Leader at the AFD headquarters in Paris, the meeting aimed to present and validate the conclusions of the sectoral mission on Urban Development - Sport and Development.
The mission, which took place from April 22nd to 24th in Maroua, focused on assessing the urban development needs related to sports and development in the region. Maroua is one of the cities set to benefit from the construction of local sports infrastructures under the SPORCAP project.
The SPORCAP project, a collaborative effort between MINSEP, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MINHDU), and AFD, is a 4-year program (2024-2027) with two primary components:
- Construction and Rehabilitation of Sports Infrastructures:
- The project aims to construct and rehabilitate 15 sports infrastructures in 5 cities, namely Maroua, Garoua, Bamenda, Bertoua, and Bafoussam.
- Capacity Building:
- The project also includes capacity building initiatives through training programs for sports stakeholders, including coaches and infrastructure managers. This training will be conducted in collaboration with the National Institute of Youth and Sports (INJS) and the Regional Centers for Youth and Sports Education (CENAJES).
This partnership between MINSEP and AFD represents a significant investment in the development of sports infrastructure and capacity building in Cameroon, with the potential to have a lasting impact on sports development in the country.
