Roger Milla Stands Firmly Behind Samuel Eto'o Amidst FECAFOOT Controversy
Cameroonian football icon, Roger Milla, has stepped forward to defend Samuel Eto'o, the current president of the Fédération Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT), amidst criticism from certain quarters of the football community.
Milla, renowned for his contributions to the sport and revered as a national hero, expressed unwavering support for Eto'o, highlighting the positive transformations witnessed under his leadership. "Our championship has gained momentum. Everything is well organized. Mr. President, I am still at the stadium to watch the matches. Stay strong. Pay no attention to anyone. Some are envious of the work you are doing. We, the footballers, are very satisfied with the work that has been done, and we encourage you to continue in the same direction," Milla affirmed.
In a statement relayed by Hornika Sport, Milla reiterated his backing for Eto'o, cautioning against the repercussions of his potential departure from FECAFOOT. "If Samuel Eto'o were to leave FECAFOOT, it would be the end of FECAFOOT. Even I would never speak of football in Cameroon again. I ask myself this question: why do these people not accept the work of other Cameroonians?" he lamented, underscoring the significance of unity and continuity in football administration.
Since assuming the presidency of FECAFOOT in December 2021, Eto'o has faced legal challenges and controversies, including proceedings before the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the High Court of Mfoundi, as well as complaints lodged with FIFA. The Ministry of Sports has also taken steps to sideline him from the national team, appointing a coach without his consent.
Milla's endorsement serves as a testament to the impact Eto'o has had on Cameroonian football, rallying support behind him amidst the turbulence surrounding his leadership. As the saga unfolds, the football community awaits further developments, mindful of the pivotal role both Eto'o and Milla play in shaping the nation's football landscape.
