Samuel Eto'o Takes Action Against Corruption in Fecafoot: Three Members Suspended
In a significant move to address corruption and embezzlement within the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), Samuel Eto'o has taken decisive action by suspending three members of the Fecafoot Executive Committee for five years.
This disciplinary action, effective April 16, 2024, targets Nyassa Nyassa Roger, Mouala Pierre, and Ndongo Ndongo Pierre Melvin, all associated with the Mbam and Kim departmental league.
The suspension stems from allegations of embezzlement of funds intended as subsidies from Fecafoot. Nyassa Nyassa Roger, in his capacity as a member of the executive committee and president of the league, is accused of falsely declaring eight clubs affiliated with the Mbam and Kim league to unlawfully obtain subsidies. However, investigations revealed that four of these clubs, namely Vipere SA, Mbam and Kim FC, Olympique FC, and Option Pro Sport Étude, do not exist. This fraudulent activity has prompted Fecafoot to impose severe sanctions on the individuals involved, prohibiting them from participating in any football-related activities for five years. The aim is to deter such misconduct and uphold the financial integrity of Fecafoot.
This development unfolds against the backdrop of a match-fixing investigation involving Samuel Eto'o himself, initiated by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Eto'o, a football icon and four-time Ballon d'Or winner, has traveled to Cairo, Egypt, on April 17 to address these accusations, further highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat corruption and uphold the integrity of football in Cameroon.
