Super Eagles of Nigeria have humbled Cameroon 4-0
The Indomitable lions in their world cup qualification match against Nigeria, have lost 4-0. The Super Eagles surged ahead with support from a home crowd, as they played in Uyo.
The visiting team Cameroon, began the encounter, full steam ahead; a style that could only end up discouraging the Nigerians. For close to 20 minutes of the first half, Fabrice Ondoa seemed to be on a stroll on the pitch, given that, he didn’t get to touch the ball. It’s only by the ending minutes of the first half that the tables turned. The spirits of the Eagles awoke after an offside goal at the 24 minute.
Victor Moses started pressurising the Cameroonian defence. This went as far as leaving two Cameroonian defenders with yellow cards, Ngadeu Ngadjui and Adolph Teikeu.
The Nigerian struggle was crowned with a first goal by Odion Ighalo at the 29th minute. As if that was not enough, Mikel Obi, with a corner kick taken by Victor Moses, slipped in the second goal at the 41st minute.
Indomitable lions went to their locker room at the end of the first half with dampened spirits. This dampening of spirits would be aggravated just in the early minutes of the second half with a goal from Victor Moses.
Cameroonians still hoped for a consolatory goal which was not forthcoming. Things only got worse when Iheanacho sent Nigeria leading with his 77th minute goal, making it four goals to nothing.
Devastated Cameroon will be receiving Nigeria on Monday 4 September, at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde for their second leg match.
The Super Eagles are now the leaders of group B of the CAF world cup qualification on 9 points, followed by Cameroon with 2 points, then Zambia with 1 point and Algeria 1 point.
