Tensions Rise: Joseph Antoine Bell Questions Samuel Eto'o's Leadership of Cameroonian Football
Yaoundé, June 17, 2024 — Samuel Eto'o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fécafoot), is once again under fire for his management style and recent decisions. The criticisms were notably articulated by former Indomitable Lions goalkeeper, Joseph Antoine Bell, during his appearance on the television program "La Vérité en Face" on Equinoxe TV.
Bell, who did not mince words, expressed his disagreement with Eto'o's handling of the Fécafoot, particularly highlighting the rocky start of coach Marc Brys amid a conflict between Fécafoot and the Ministry of Sports during the resumption of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. "This situation reminds me of scenes we often experienced as kids," Bell remarked.
"In the neighborhood, not everyone is wealthy, but there's someone who owns the ball. He provides the ball so we can play, and there are two captains who pick the players. And since he provides the ball but isn't a good player, he's not chosen. He [referring to Samuel Eto'o] then threatens to leave with the ball."
Bell also questioned Eto'o's motivations and actions, suggesting they were detrimental to the team’s stability. "When you consistently act against the balance of the players and the team, why were you elected? The real question to ask today is, what is the ultimate objective?" he pondered, urging a reflection on Eto'o's true intentions as president of Fécafoot.
These criticisms come amid growing tensions between Fécafoot and the Ministry of Sports, which have been affecting the national team's stability and performance. The concerns raised by Joseph Antoine Bell underscore the necessity for balanced and transparent management for the betterment of Cameroonian football.
