Cameroon: Buea City Council to face court action
Uncontrolled and repeated phenomenon of rain water overflowing into people’s homes in Buea has made this weekend the worse ever in Fako history. Buea residents have blamed it on negligence by the Buea council authorities. The council road grading project in Upper Muea village which was awarded to an incompetent contractor remains the foundation of the disastrous fallout following the heavy rains that swept off and destroyed several buildings on Saturday the 5th of March 2016. One of the victims, Carl Findi told this reporter that "water entered into my house, my TV set, computer, important documents, bed in fact all my belongings have been completely damaged”.
Torrential rains shattered all of Mola Mbella Njoh’s home leaving him with virtually nothing. As the inhabitants of Upper Muea and Malingo villages spent the whole Sunday morning picking up the pieces, a huge fire engulfed Miss Bright Street at Bomaka village and a 20 rooms building was razed to the ground. Cameroon Concord gathered many affected victims of the rainfall have revealed they will be filing a case against the Buea City Council.
The heavy downpour affected a filling station located at mile 16 Bolifamba, Buea. Correspondingly, more than twenty commercial vehicles were immovable after they reportedly purchased fuel from the said petrol station. As the rainy season is fast approaching, the population has been gripped by fear and tension for the known unknowns.
