Cameroon: Government to hire village masquerades to ensure security during GCE exams
In a meeting organized by the ministry of secondary education in Buea with principles, school proprietors and PTA leaders, some principles suggested masquerades be hired to assure students safety during this period.
According to reports the minister of secondary education held this meeting to know how the region is set for the 2016/2017 GCE exams. They asked the minister the way out of the numerous problems they face top among which is security. For instance a school was burnt down in Nguti sub-division. The question was how the insecurity could be solved. Some principles suggested that masquerades can protect students without anyone attacking them due to fear.
Sources say the governor was astonished as to why the Bakweri chiefs have not brought out their elephants to put order.
“Your children are threatened and u cannot send those elephants to protect them. All you can do is to invoke the elephants to threaten the administrators that they have taken your lands”.
