Yaounde: Two suspects arrested following motor bike theft.
The two rubbers include; Mama Ndam a native of the west region 24 and Ismaila Baba,a 26 year old son of the far north region of Cameroon. They are part of a constituted gang of five armed robbers specialised in motor bike theft who have been giving sleepless nights to bikers in mendong . They fell into the dragnet of the forces of law and order of the efoulan gendarmerie station following a coordinated search operation led by the commander of the said gendarmerie station, Major Cyriaque Ndjantou, Friday,June 30th 2017 at the Mendong neighborhood.
The gendarmerie commander told Cameroon Concord that he received several calls for rescue from an inhabitant of mendong who is a commercial biker saying he has been attacked, beaten mercilessly and his new motor bike snatched by some unidentified young men.
Accompanied by two of his boys, major Ndjantou engaged an operation at 2am and took cover in an area known as hideout for criminals in mendong. Out of a sudden, the gang members five of them came out of an uncompleted building in a thick bush all smoking cannabis locally known as 'Mbanga'. The uniform men who say they did not want to gun them down managed to pick two of the members and the rest took to their heels.
They were fished out in possession of a good quantity of hard drugs, five new motor bikes without identification papers, and weapons such as knives, machetes, hammers and pliers which they use in torturing any prey that falls in their trap.
They are presently detained in the cell of the efoulan gendarmerie station waiting to be ferried to the kondengui prison as investigations continue.
Commercial motor bike riders in the area told us that this gang has been a thorn in their flesh. They have resolved to take on mob justice on any thief that falls in their hands, may be this will help curb the rising phenomenon of bike theft in their area.
