Syrian planes, assisted by the Russian army, have airdropped humanitarian aid for people besieged by the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in the Arab country’s east. The Syrian aircraft dropped food cargo over the city of Dayr al-Zawr on Monday, using Russian parachute platform airdrop systems. Some 200,000 people living in Dayr al-Zawr have been deprived of aid since the city was encircled by Daesh in May 2015. Dayr al-Zawr links the Daesh stronghold of Raqqah province in Syria with territory controlled by the terrorist group in neighboring Iraq.
A ceasefire agreement in Syria, brokered by Russia and the United States, entered into force on February 27. Under the truce, humanitarian aid is to be delivered to besieged areas across Syria. Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. According to a February report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.

The former minister of Sports, Adoum Garoua has been forbidden from leaving the country, Cameroon Concord has gathered from sources close to the Special Criminal Court in Yaounde. Our informant hinted that the Delegate General for National Security was given standing instructions to use his elements stationed at the borders and restrict the movement of the former sports minister.
Justine Aimée Ngounou, the public prosecutor at the Special Criminal Court reportedly made the decision following the results of a survey conducted in January 2015 by the Higher State Control (CONSUPE) on the use of funds released by the Cameroon government for the World Cup in Brazil.
The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, and members of the Standards Committee, the technical and administrative staff of the Indomitable Lions had all been heard by state inspectors, CONSUPE . The report of that body identified overbilling. The government recently sent a commission to Brazil to verify the accuracy of statements by some officials of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and those of the Ministry of Sports and physical Education.
The Cameroonian delegation that traveled to Brazil consisted of friends, relatives, mistresses and other impostors who have no relation to the World Cup. The border police have been told to also prevent André Nguidjol (former executive director of the national team), Jean William Sollo (former DG of the Cameroon water utilities corporation) from traveling out of Cameroon.

Activities to mark the 31st International Women’s Day in the Centre Region were launched at the Regional Delegation of Women’s Empowerment and the Family in Yaounde. The regional launch came on the heels of the national in Bertoua on Thursday, February 25, 2016.
The day was marked by a meeting with women of all walks of life. Speaking at yesterday’s ceremony, the Regional Inspector in charge of Devolved Technical Services in the Governor’s Office, Léonard Mani, said the theme for this year was a call for women from all walks of life to be involved in the celebrations and for equal rights to be given to men and women. He said women’s empowerment does not mean disobedience in the marital home or rejection, but the ability of women to take care of their well being. Léonard Mani therefore called on the participants to pay attention to various lectures for their own good.
The women discussed and shared ideas and experiences on topics such as “Women, Industry and Artisan,” “Women and ICTs,” “Women, Traditions and Liberty,” and “The Experience Of The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family In The Empowerment Of Women.” Others were “Women, Peace, Security And Violence Against Women,” and “The Legal Instruments Of The Rights Of Women,” among others. The Douala International Airport have suspended flights for over twenty-one days due to ongoing rehabilitation works. The Yaounde Nsimalen International Airport is now a massive theatre of air traffic – the lone entry and exit route from Cameroon. This is sequel to the commencement of modernization works at the Douala International Airport with the runway, aircraft taxiways and aprons expected to be refurbished as well as the passenger terminal to be renovated and restructured.
Government sources have maintained all management and operational staff are ensuring that their operations are successful as regard safety and security. In the main hall of the airport, some 150 staff transferred from the Douala International Airport for the three-week exercise were spotted sorting out last-minute operational guidelines. The office attendants of the Director of the Yaounde Nsimalen International Airport, the Civil Aviation Authority where batches are issued and staff of airline companies who are temporarily lodged at the airport have finalised preparatory tasks.
Temporary offices set up for airline companies in the main hall and at the East wing of the tarmac have gradually been taken up by their occupants. Meanwhile, technical, logistical and managerial aspects have already been handled, with the Cameroon Airports Company, ADC,claiming it is coping with the heavy traffic. The Director of the Airport, Thierry Nkodo revealed that apart from Arik Air and Taag Angola Airlines that decided to suspend their flights during the three-week re-routing to Yaounde, the other airline companies operating in Cameroon have confirmed their flight schedules. The hitherto near-idle Nsimalen-Yaounde Airport is witnessing a pretty different scenario since it went operational in October 1994. Traffic flow has more than double, with close to 20 aircrafts, as against 10, arriving and departing everyday. It has been busy flight schedule with the first flights that landed in the wee hours of March 1.
The management of the airport have insisted on safety and security measures. A safety and security assessement impact carried out identified vulnerable areas that have since received reinforcement. All safety and security threat indices at the Douala International Airport have been transferred to the Yaounde Nsimalen International Airport, said Thierry Nkodo. Measures to limit any threats have been put in place with access to some parts of the airport strictly forbidden. Passengers have been invited to scale down their accompanying delegations.
