Inside Cameroon
Transport buses covering long distances in Cameroon have one common characteristic. What we observe is the sale of 'medicinal products' on board buses linking major cities of the country.
What's so dramatic about this phenomenon is the fact that people inhale substances they don't know, even when they don't have 'any major health problem'.
I observed a strange sight on Saturday on board a bus travelling from Yaoundé to Ebolowa.
A certain man in his forties or so got on the bus and started his campaign. Shortly afterwards, he offered some powdery substance to a few passengers to inhale.
They took the substance and did as prescribed.
Behold, they started sneezing as soon as possible. For the next one hour or more, the sneezing was unstoppable.
Among them was a little girl of about eight years old. She was the first to start sneezing. And she did it so dramatically that most passengers turned to look at her occasionally. In the end she fell asleep.
And what shocked me most was the fact that the products , for they were many, were never bought, not ev
en by those who had tasted one of them. And the disappointed 'doctor' jumped off the bus after a short drive.
That's part of the bus hospital saga.
On nearly every bus, you find someone who claims to blend traditional African medicine with science.
Some even limit themselves only to modern or Western medicine which they sell to passengers without any consultation or diagnosis.
Toothpaste, toothbrush, biscuit, candy, and a host of other products are also sold on buses.

A 28 year old man whose name we got as Paul Ndinga has been stabbed to death in the Newdong Neighborhood in Douala by armed rubbers and his motorbike taken away. He was stopped late last evening by these rubbers and asked to hand over his bike which he resisted but the rubbers would not let him go.
They staged a fight in which Paul was stabbed multiple times and abandoned to bleed to death.
The robbers made away with his motorbike and investigations have been opened. This is just one of the many cases around this neighborhood as most bike riders have avoided to circulate this area of the town at late hours.

A pathetic situation has been reported in the Meiganga district hospital of the Adamawa region in which two nurses are presently in detention for doing away with the left foot of a newborn baby.
The mother to the child had been taken to the hospital in labour pains. After the delivery process, she and her family members were made to know that, the expectant mother had had a still birth. The news was so heavy to bear but the bereaved family manned up and faced it as it was.
From the hospital, the corpse of the innocent baby was taken home for burial. Before they could bury the child, it was discovered that the left foot of the newborn had been trimmed off. Without wasting time, the family went back to the hospital to demand the missing foot.
At the district hospital, the truth was not forthcoming except after much pressure had been put on the workers there, that a search was carried out. The search unveiled the unscrupulousness of two nurses who had cut off the foot and hid in a locker.
The foot was wrapped with a tissue paper and handed over to the family, who then left and went home with disgruntlement as they were not happy with the unsympathetic treatment they were given at the hospital considering the tragic situation they found themselves in.
The baby is suspected to have been suffocated to death by the concerned health personnel, presumably for rituals.
The forces of law and order with assistance from the two suspects who are still in detention are investigating to know what motivated this criminal act.

This involves fugitives who have fled their country the Central African Republic, due to the unrest that is plaguing the nation in order to seek refuge in Cameroon.
In its edition of 6th July 2017 as published by Cameroon-info:net, Le Jour daily newspaper revealed that at the moment, inhabitants of the Kette locality are living a life of terror. This council area is located in the Upper Nyong Division of the East Region. They are equally at the frontier which separates Cameroon and the Central African Republic.
They are therefore the ones in grave insecurity brought by the CAR refugees, who have been aggressing the population and raping the women.
Emmanuel Gbanga, the Mayor of the highly affected municipality said, “they carry out barbaric acts, brutalising the population and raping the women”
The Cameroonian daily, précised that the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), had succeeded to census this foreign population that had settled on Cameroon soil. Some of them live in Camps while others have succeeded to infiltrate into the population, making it hard to know who is who. An inhabitant of this area attests that, “they are everywhere, all around the village you will find Central Africans. Some of them are even benefiting from the generosity of the population who have given them pieces of land to cultivate and settle on”.

Last evening the roadside vendors and passerby at TEXACO AEROPORT witnessed a shocking drama. A speeding car crushed two ladies crossing the road killing them instantly but the driver quickly abandoned the car on the spot and took off on foot. Seeing he could not escape with his life on foot, he boarded a taxi but it was too late for the bike riders had already spotted him. The taxi took off but was quickly overrun and outnumbered by a flock of bike riders who threatened to destroy the taxi if it did not stop. It was the timely intervention of some two military officers who were passing by who jumped in and rescued the man who had just ended the lives of two ladies some couple of minutes back. The Man was handed to the forces of law and order who placed him under police custody.
It is but normal that drivers who are involved in a deathly accident should run to a police station to safe their lives but this guy was rather unfortunate.
