The marriage between the French elect president and wife animates debate amongst women in Douala
The respect of culture should be the priority when it comes to marriages in the African context. Women in Douala debated on this.
Sources say some women in the Douala resident argued that marriage is not about mutual feelings alone applying to the case of the French elect president who is 39 and wife 64 years old. According to them it is not normal for a man to married a woman that is close to be his mother.
“How can I respect a man younger than me; talk less of one that can be my son. To me for a man to marry a woman far older than him is a taboo and such relationships are economically and politically motivated” says a resident of Douala.
While others are against this relationship, others have different views concerning this issue. According to some it is okay if they love each other.
I don’t see any problem If they can understand each other. Love comes from the heart. Love is something you cannot stop is natural. I don’t see reasons why they should not get married.
Despite the constant change in mentality with people adapting to western culture. A man getting married to a woman far older than him remains unacceptable to majority of Cameroon and Africa at large.
