Celebrity rapper and campaigner, Akon has teamed up with oil and gas company, Shell, to help promote its #makethefuture campaign.

Through the program, Shell is looking for entrepreneurs with ground-breaking ideas on how to create alternative energy solutions.

Along with DJ Hardwerk, the singer released the single “Tell Me We’re OK,” which highlights the launch of Africa’s first human and solar powered football field in Lagos, Nigeria created by Pavegen in the music video.

Ninety floor tiles under the field turns the player’s movements into kinetic energy.

Akon who was raised in West African country; Senegal is the ambassador for the project. 

“The whole concept of the song is just to allow, or to hear from someone that it’s going to be ok. Believe me we’re all – from political, to socially, to energy to any kind of agriculture, you can go everywhere. In all aspects in every sectors there are issues and there’s problems that we’re all facing as a people,” he said.

The producer of the song, DJ Hardwerk said the moment he heard the lyrics of the song, the composition was easy for him.

“There is also a time and place for change and there is a time and place to inspire new things. That was the main goal of what we wanted to do with this record,” he said.

Although Akon ‘s original goal was to become rich and famous, but through the years, the singer has decided to use his star power for good.

One of his projects is Akon lighting Africa which started its outreach in Senegal.
