Gambia: President Yahya Jammeh honors Nollywood stars
Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh has donated a huge piece of land in Banjul to Nollywood actresses and actors. Gambian Vice President, Mrs. Isatou Njie, who handed over the gift on behalf of the Head of State said the gesture to the members of the African movie industry was a rare recognition of the role they play in defending African values and African heritage through Nollywood films.
She revealed that the initiative aims to demonstrate faith in President Yahya Jammeh’s pan-Africanism policy and also to encourage celebrities to make Gambia their home. The Nollywood stars honoured by the Gambia leader included Jackie Appiah, Patience Ozokwor, Chinedu Ikedieze, Osita Iheme, Eucharia Anunobi, Tony Umez, Ngozi Ezeonu, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Francis Duru, Monalisa Chinda, Harry B . Anyanwu, Chika Okpala and Masud Rukiat.
