The Fally Ipupa Concert Matter: CAMTEL Responds to Lady Ponce.
Controversy Surrounding Fally Ipupa's Concert: Lady Ponce Expresses Outrage, Camtel Provides Justification.
The Fally Ipupa concert scheduled for December 30 in Cameroon, organized by Camtel and Bleu, is causing controversy. Renowned Cameroonian artist Lady Ponce expresses her indignation at the absence of local artists at this event. She also denounces the decision by Camtel, the event organizer, to promote the concert using a poster featuring only Fally Ipupa, thus excluding local talents.
For Lady Ponce, this exclusion of Cameroonian artists is a real injustice. The singer also criticizes the fact that Camtel uses Cameroonian taxpayers' money without supporting local artists, while consuming their music for free without paying royalties. She calls for an end to this disregard for Cameroonian artists and advocates for their rightful claims.
In response, Camtel explained the criteria that led to the choice of Fally Ipupa for the concert. Camtel's communications director, Benjamin Lamère, assured that Fally Ipupa exactly fits the target audience for this campaign, citing his popularity among young people aged 15 to 35 in Cameroon. He defended this choice by highlighting Fally Ipupa's strong presence on various streaming platforms in Cameroon.
"All choices are subject to criticism, and in this case, these are choices that have unanimous approval. We chose Fally Ipupa because Fally stands out on his own. Fally Ipupa is currently the favorite artist of the target audience we want to reach through this campaign. That is, young people between 15 and 35 years old. Just go online, to various streaming platforms, and you'll see that in Cameroon, the most listened-to artist is Fally Ipupa,"
