Anglophone crisis: Defense forces ‘torture’ civilians in reprisal raid
There is fear and grief in the North-West region of Cameroon following a raid by defense forces during the week.
This comes barely hours after some two gendarme officers were murdered by unidentified armed men in Boyo division. One of the deceased is a pregnant woman, reports have said.
Images circulating on social media feature people at hospitals with wounds all over their bodies.
A reliable source has confirmed the death of a young man who was shot several times and killed in a raid. Several homes were ransacked, and shops looted, it has been reported.
This has mystified the already-existing atmosphere of fear in Southern Cameroons, especially coupled with growing speculation over the fate of 'President Sisiku' and his men. Since their arrest in Nigeria earlier in the year, no traces of their whereabouts are available to comfort relatives and followers.
Cameroon has been accused by rights groups on several occasions of torture, but its spokesperson has always rubbished any accusations.
