Cameroon Anglophone Crisis: Ghost Town Action For Today Measures Full Effectiveness-Consortium

Cameroon Anglophone Consortium leaders report that the Ghost town action of today, Tuesday, 31 January is moving smoothly as planned all over West Cameroon.They had been reports of some clashes last night in mile 17 Buea whereby angry youths burnt down ssome shops that had defied the Ghost Town action and opened their doors.The shop owners on the other hand claimed they had been forced by the Mayor of that city-Buea to open.

Today's Situational Report

Ghost Town is in full force across all cities, villages, and communities in West Cameroon. However, we have disturbing reports that some shops in Mile 17 that colonial mayor Ekema forced open yesterday were burnt down as we get up this morning.

The consortium continues to denounce any acts of violence. We denounce it in the possible strongest terms but we must not lose sights that our people are very angry and some of them may act individually to throw such anger when a situation comes up. It is fair to say that Mr. Ekema pushed whosoever carried these acts and the Mayor must bear the consequences for forcing shops to open and causing those who acted to act. Mr. Mayor should be held responsible. In fact, all those whose stores were sealed by the Mayor have as right to sue him.
