Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

The SDF MP for Jakari Constituency, Hon. Joseph Wirba, has cried out to the diplomatic community accredited to Yaoundé that the government of La Republique has hatched a plan to assassinate him.

Wirba’s claim is contained in separate letters he recently sent to the French, US, German Ambassadors and the British and Canadian High Commissioners to Cameroon.

The letters are titled “Grave concerns for my safety”

In the letters, the MP said “I do not feel safe, and I am not safe. My phone has been hacked. I am trailed everywhere I go and to make things worse, reliable sources informed me that there are plans to arrest me and if possible physically eliminate me at anytime.”

Hon. Wirba further asserted that it is more difficult for him to continue living a normal life under such circumstances, since the Constitution that protects him was compromised by Government in a bid to arrest him.

“I therefore plead with you to help protect and keep me safe through your high office,” Wirba said.

He said as MP, protected by the Constitution, he spoke on behalf of his voiceless Anglophone people on December 2, 2016.

“I was shocked when Government quickly put the Constitution of the nation aside and ordered for his arrest.”

“Your Excellency, as you are well aware, the core issues related to the problems of the English-Speaking people of Cameroon, are very profound indeed… There is a complete lack of goodwill to dialogue with our people that dates back to 1961, when the union was formed between East and West Cameroon.

The English-speaking people of Cameroon have been oppressed, abused, and their human dignity trampled upon for too long. Government policy towards Anglophone Cameroonians is directly threatening the unity of the nation.”

The MP said, after he daringly articulated the Anglophone Problem, he has become an enemy of the Government and he had to escape into hiding.

While in hiding, Wirba wrote to the Speaker of the National Assembly, calling on him to ensure his protection, but he was snubbed.

The Lion-hearted Wirba recent emergence at the National Assembly raked commotion when the MP appeared unexpectedly and continued with his vocal pronouncements about the Anglophone Problem.
