Cameroon's Indomitable Lions Bid Farewell in a Grand Ceremony as AFCON 2023 Beckons
In a spectacle of pride and anticipation, the Palais des Sports in Yaoundé played host to a farewell ceremony for Cameroon's national football team, the Indomitable Lions. The event, marked by dignitaries, football legends, and fervent fans, set the stage for the team's departure to Ivory Coast for the upcoming AFCON 2023.
The Key Players
At the heart of the ceremony was Samuel Mvondo Ayolo, the director of the civil cabinet and the personal representative of the Cameroonian head of state. His presence underscored the significance of the occasion, emphasizing the nation's support for its football heroes.
President of FECAFOOT, Samuel Eto'o Fils, and the head coach of the Indomitable Lions, Rigobert Song Bahanag, graced the Yaoundé Multipurpose Sports Complex with their presence, adding an aura of leadership and experience to the proceedings.
Symbolic Moments
A poignant moment unfolded as Fabrice Ondoa, bearer of the Cameroonian flag, received words of encouragement from Samuel Mvondo Ayolo. "Go and represent Cameroon honorably," the minister urged, symbolizing the nation's hopes riding on the shoulders of the talented goalkeeper. The flag was later passed on to Head Coach Rigobert Song, signifying the coach's role in steering the team towards success.
Faces of the Ceremony
Football legends, athletes, and five prominent Indomitable Lions—Clinton Njie, Fabrice Ondoa, Faris Pemi Moumbagna, Leonel Christian Ateba, and Nathan Wilfried Douala—graced the farewell ceremony. The presence of these accomplished players, along with the introduction of new talents like Ateba and Douala, highlighted the rich legacy and promising future of Cameroon's football.
Looking Ahead to AFCON 2023
As the team bids adieu to its homeland, attention shifts to the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2024. With Ivory Coast playing host, the tournament promises thrilling clashes among 24 national teams distributed across six captivating groups. The defending champions, Senegal, face a formidable challenge in the "group of death," featuring Cameroon, Guinea, and Gambia.
Conclusion
The farewell ceremony not only served as a moment of unity and pride for Cameroon but also set the stage for a riveting AFCON 2023. As the Indomitable Lions embark on their quest for a sixth title, the nation stands united in anticipation, ready to cheer for its football heroes on the grand continental stage.

Choupo Moting Omitted: Indomptable Lions Forge Ahead Without Star Striker at CAN 2024
Choupo Moting will not be partaking in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. The Bayern Munich forward has not received a summons from Rigobert Song for the imminent grand assembly of African football set to commence in a few days.
A stalwart of the national team for several years and the vice-captain, the former Paris Saint-Germain striker will thus be absent from a fourth consecutive competition with Cameroon, following his absence in the AFCON tournaments of 2019, 2021, and the 2022 World Cup. Rigobert Song, in a press conference, elucidated his decision, stating, "Choupo Moting is undoubtedly a formidable player. However, my colleagues and I have chosen to maintain our recent course. While acknowledging his significance, a decision had to be made in line with our longstanding approach. He remains a crucial player, but choices had to be made, and they have been. At this juncture, I will proceed with those I have selected," he explained to the press.
At 34 years old, the World Cup could potentially mark Choupo Moting's final participation with the Indomitable Lions, given his irregular appearances in the national selection. It is noteworthy that since the conclusion of the World Cup, the Hamburg native has featured in only one out of eight matches with the national team.

The chief of Cameroon's technical staff has chosen to place his trust in 27 Lions for this grand spectacle of African football. The Cameroon team will embark on the quest for its 6th star with a notably youthful squad. Financial Frustration: CCC Yaounde Blocked as Referees Demand Dues.
In a scoop revealed exclusively yesterday, the referees of the Central Regional Football League are currently on strike at the Cameroonian Cultural Center (CCC) in Yaoundé. The entrance to the CCC is barricaded by these strikers who express their frustration. They have not received payment for the past two seasons. Since the arrival of the new figurehead in Tsinga, they have not received their remuneration. Consequently, they are advocating for the settlement of their outstanding payments.
These referees officiated the last two seasons of the Cameroonian Cup (preliminary rounds) and have not been compensated to date. Additionally, almost the entire regional championship, encompassing 5 out of 14 rounds, remains unpaid, not to mention the Down and UP play-offs. Meanwhile, Fecafoot employees enjoy substantial salaries. Ironically, before taking office, the current executive asserted that Fecafoot's funds are intended for players, not individuals occupying office spaces.
